Gerard DeGregoris, MD
Interventional Pain Management Physician
Dr. Gerard DeGregoris is an Interventional Pain Management Physician who specializes in debilitating and painful conditions of the spine, chest wall and large joints. He utilizes ultrasound and x-ray guided techniques to help people manage their pain. He was trained at the tri-institutional pain management fellowship program at Weill Cornell/New York Presbyterian Hospital, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. DeGregoris graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. After college he attended Medical School at the University of Michigan. He then completed a residency in Anesthesiology where he was chosen as co-Chief Resident for his department at New York-Presbyterian Hospital's Weill Cornell Medical Center. As Chief Resident he led an initiative to reorganize anesthesiology supplies and operating room procedures to improve patient safety. After his fellowship in pain management he worked as an anesthesiologist at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center before joining Manhattan Spine and Pain Medicine in 2012.
"As a board certified anesthesiologist, I am trained to pay special attention to the multi-system effects that medications and procedures have on the human body. I apply this experience to my clinical practice of pain management every day."
An avid sailor and skier himself, Dr. DeGregoris' main goal is to improve his patients' functionality--enabling them to return to the lifestyle and activities that make them happy. He strongly believes in multi-modal approaches to healing pain syndromes, incorporating the expertise of his colleagues: physiatrists, neurologists, physical therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists and physician assistants into his patient care plan. He sets aside time several times each week to attend meetings and lectures in these related disciplines.
Every patient has different priorities, lifestyles and goals. “I always create a customized care plan that will fit each patient’s specific schedule and provide him or her with the best chance of relief." Dr. DeGregoris prides himself in his ability to listen to and summarize his patients' thoughts, concerns and fears. He is currently accepting new patients.
